Sound Stylists invests in Robe Pointe workhorses

With the South African Winter months usually a time to gear down a notch and prep for “silly season” which takes place in the last quarter of the year, it has been anything but for most technical supply companies who just have not stopped. Johannesburg based Sound Stylists is no exception and to cater for ongoing shows and to upgrade lighting gear that had come to its end, the company invested in 12 Robe Pointes in Quad Road Cases from DWR Distribution.

“We have Robe Pointes in our current fleet and made a decision to increase our stock from 12 to 24,” comments Clinton Fowler, Head of AV at Sound Stylists. “We really enjoy these fixtures, and along with our miniPointes, they are the workhorses on most gigs. Sound Stylists have a large variety of fixtures from a few well‐known brands. The Pointes sit nicely between some of our bigger wash and profiles fixtures, and offer high output and bold, dynamic beams.”

Kevin Glover, founder of Sound Stylists explains that the Pointe purchase forms part of an upgrade plan for their indoor fixtures. “We have found that Robe Lighting are particularly good in having a long life on products, and that coupled with easy access to spare parts ‐ and yes DWR are good here as well ‐ we are comfortable increasing our fleet to meet the larger indoor requirements. These 12 fixtures are to be followed up pretty quickly with a further 8 and then we will be taking an additional 12 before the end of the year.” These 44 units will then form the backbone of Sound Stylists’ corporate “beam” fixtures for the next couple of years.

The Robe Pointe, a true hybrid, can be used as a Beam, Spot, Wash or FX. The unit is exceptionally bright and super‐ fast with a sharp parallel beam that cuts through the air and across video with ease. It can project a static or rotating glass gobo to produce precision in‐air and surface images with an even focal plane. Tight or at full 20 degree zoom, the output is crystal clear and brilliant. Add in either rotating, 6 way linear or 8 way circular, prisms to create wide reaching effects across any set. Drop in the frost filter and use any of the 13 rich colour. The units will be housed in a Robe Top Loader flight case, an ideal solution for the touring or rental market. The flight case is constructed from high‐quality, water‐repellent 9mm thick plywood with a black finish, aluminium protected edges and steel corners. Four metal recessed wheels make it easy to transport.

Says Duncan Riley from DWR Distribution, “I think it’s wonderful that Kevin and his team have invested in good, quality products. We look forward to seeing them on high profile shows in the near future. Thank you for your continued support over the years.”
