At the end of August, Lithuanian pop singer Donny Montell presented his new live show at Kalnų Parkas in Vilnius. The open-air concert set new standards in terms of overall audiovisual staging, with a lighting design characterised by cinematic imagery and realised by the creative studio Marfa Lights. Over 350 Cameo lights were used to create a cinematic depth effect and detailed lighting moods.

The aim of lighting designers Pijus Norušis and Andrius Stasiulis was to make the stage look like a static film scene. Instead of eye-catching effects, Marfa Lights focused on discreet, atmospheric lighting accents.

“We deliberately didn't want to show off with complicated effects, but rather use the light subtly," explains Pijus Norušis. The focus was on the precise coordination of light, scenery and image direction – including IMAG content on LED screens, individually coordinated sidelights and subtle colour gradients.

The team placed Cameo PIXBAR SMD IP G2 LED bars along the large LED walls, creating blinder effects, pixel-based animations and even colour gradations – including at minimum intensity. The ZENIT W600 outdoor LED wash lights were positioned under the stage floor and, in combination with haze effects, created an impressive, glowing floor light. For Pijus Norušis, the ZENIT W600s were “by far the most effective lights that we have tried out in comparable situations in recent years.”

The Cameo S4 IP LED softlights were a special feature of the setup. The LED panel lights are usually used in film and TV productions, but here they have found their place on the concert stage as a visual link between film aesthetics and live performance. “The large-format S4s were a real eye-catcher and had enough power to fill the entire venue with colour,” explains Andrius Stasiulis. “Thanks to the pixel mode, we were also able to create particularly sophisticated and detailed looks.”

OTOS B5 beam moving heads with IP65 certification were used for highly directional lighting accents. Originally planned as an addition to an LED tower, they impressed in live tests with laser-like scanning effects thanks to the use of linear prisms – especially with dark, saturated colours. The OPUS X PROFILE profile moving heads were mounted invisibly behind the PIXBAR LED bars and provided the main backlight without detracting from the effects mounted on the front. In addition, over 100 ZENIT P130 LSD LED PAR lights with 45° filters were used along the catwalk to provide side lighting for the cars and dancers.
