Martin Professional MAC Ones strut their stuff at the Melbourne Fashion Festival
Event production company and one of Australia’s largest hirers of AV, lighting, and rigging equipment, Harry the Hirer Productions, introduced their brand‐new collection of Martin Professional MAC One fixtures on the runway of the 2024 Melbourne Fashion Festival (MFF), held at the World Heritage Royal Exhibition Buildings (REB).
Lighting Designer, Hugh Taranto selected the MAC Ones because their compact design, speed and best‐in‐class Lux to Kilos ratio fit perfectly into the premium runway rig. The lightweight design meant the fixtures could be double rigged off a single attachment point down each side of the 50m catwalk. Across the week of the MFF, the MAC Ones’ versatility was demonstrated over the 13 individual premium runway shows, used as a soft wash to compliment the main catwalk focus as well as to push colour and movement into the spectacular REB vaulted roof space. Hugh leveraged the ‘Eye Candy’ lens LEDs, creating a mid‐ layer lighting effect for the 1400 capacity audience.
Changes to the venue rules at the REB since 2023 meant a complete ban on haze, steering the lighting design towards a more ‘clean European’ look. The Martin Professional MAC Ones fit the bill perfectly with their compact flat base and wide Fresnel aperture hiding most of the fixture and ensuring that the attention would be on the output and Eye Candy, not the fixture itself.
“I’ve been super excited to get our new MAC Ones out for their first major Australian event and couldn’t be happier that it was the Melbourne Fashion Festival,” commented HtHP Account Manager and Festival Technical Director, Marcus Pugh. “I first saw (and fell in love with) the MAC One as an engineering sample 12 months ago at ProLight+Sound. We knew straight away that this compact ‘non‐pizza‐ tray‐face’ wash would be the perfect addition to the HtHP lighting arsenal and ordered 150 units on the spot. It’s been a long wait to get these little gems into a design and they did not disappoint.”
Hanslee Lim, Director of Lighting for Harman Professional APAC expressed, “It was impressive to see HtHP leveraging the MAC One’s innovative combination of Beam, Wash and Eye Candy features for a fashion show application. Its a great example of the world of possibilities open to lighting designers and users of the MAC One.”
