India: Touted as Bangalore’s “first summer music festival”, the 2nd Edition of Submerge Supernova festival was held at E-Zone Club in Bangalore on April 22nd 2012. The quirky and fun-vibed “boutique festival” is organized by Submerge, the people behind the annual year-end Goa migration – Sunburn. Festival director Nikhil Chinapa spoke on how the second edition of Submerge Supernova was conceptualized and executed, “The idea behind Supernova is just like the name. It is a big event that happens in a short period of time, creating a huge amount of energy that spreads everywhere. We basically want the same thing. An intense explosion of music and energy where you can come and chill out with your friend. That was the idea behind the first Supernova and is the idea behind this one. We want to retain that similar sort of vibe. The theme is rockets but we are not going to have moving robots or anything. It’ll be like last year’s setup only featuring weird things like spacemen and rockets.” The Event was hosted by Nikhil Chinapa along with RJ Rohit Barker. The festival lineup has 22 artists spread over three stages, which were christened different names by Chinapa himself: Main Stage is ‘This Stage’; Pool- Side Stage is ‘That Stage’, and Lawn Stage was called the ‘Other Stage’. The lineup of DJ’s who played were: Ferry Corsten, DJ Pearl, DJ Swing, Sanjay Dutta, DJ Clitus, Vachan Chinapa, Nawed Khan, Brute Force, Medival Pundit, Blot, and other top DJs and performers.J Davis Prosound & Lighting, based in Bangalore, was chosen for the second time in a row as the preferred sound, lighting, video, and staging partner for the event. “It was an awesome experience for us to work again for the second time with the Submerge crew on the Supernova Festival and we made sure we delivered the best!” The main sound reinforcement consisted of an L-Acoustics V-DOSC system with SB 218 Subs for the Main Stage (This Stage) and Pool Side (That Stage). The system was powered by L-Acoustics LA 48a amplifiers and controlled via a Dolby Lake Processor and BSS Audio Omnidrive unit. The lighting system employed around the stages comprised of: 12 Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 1200; 16 PR Lighting Beam 300; 16 LED Moving Head Washes; 8 Robe 575 Wash; 60 3-Watt LED Pars, and 8 Coemar Versatile lighting effects. A quirky feature of the event was “Space Invaders” where a couple of Space Invaders were created using P 15 LED Mesh / Curtain as the background provided by Graflex Inc, the AV Division of J Davis Prosound & Lighting. The effects were handled by VJ Kaycee who did a fantastic job on the visuals,
